The first step done in air duct insulation is that all the points in the ducts are sealed by brushing through mastic, a material that seals the joints and protects the system against potential loss of air and drop in velocity. Mastic is preferably used rather than duct tapes because it does not corrupt or shrink away from the joints in time. After brushing the mastic it is left it for at least 24 hours until it dries. Temperature can greatly affect the speed of the movement of air through the ductworks. If the system holds its temperature well, air can move quicker. Maximum capacity of air can be carried by the ducts if the joints have been sealed well and air duct insulation is properly done.
